Cold and sweet

My sweetheart and I drove around the neighborhood listening to christmas music on the radio.
The nice thing about Christmas music is that it will make you feel all chilled and winter-y even when it's 70 degrees outside and half the trees are green. In fact, it will make you feel that way even if you have never even lived in a place that requires parkas and fireplaces.
Christmas is snowy white and red and sparkly. Who's ever heard of a hot, humid green Christmas? Really.
My sweetheart and I, we know how this game is played. Whenever a Christmas carol comes on the radio, we crank down the A/C and make sure we ignore the palm trees and half the population wearing t-shirts. We sing our heart out. We get IN THE SPIRIT OF THINGS.
Whatever the spirit actually might be, it works. My baby and I, we sing like there's no tomorrow. We sing our "jingle bells" and our "giddy-hops" and our "white christmases" like the opera-in the-honda that we are.
By the time we are done and round the corner to our driveway, we fully expect to find Santa himself splayed on the couch and thumbing through the holiday coupons in the wholefoods catalog. And when we don't find him, we sailed with uncrushed spirits toward the cold, sweet comforts of the refrigerator.
Cold and sweet. What's not to like?
