I won first prize in the office Halloween costume contest.
Not only did I parade in my green fury multi-antennaed outfit: I sung and danced to the tune of "Il etait une bergere..." ("There once was a shepherdess..") up and down the corridor between the elevator and the lunch room.
The devil made me do it. That or some twisted sense of managerial cheer overtook my better sense of decorum.
Someone taped the scene on her digital camera. This could be the start of YouTube fame and the end of a spotless record of stern professionalism.
Worse, I squandered part of my prize money on the purchase of a Light-up Googly Worm at Walgreens.
Part stress ball part... what?... The worm is six inches long, blue with a touch of purple at the tip of its hairs. It lights up when stretched, bent, cuddled or otherwise played with. It also makes a pleasant gurgling noise reminiscent of a two-year-old flushing her mother's lipstick down the family commode.
I adore the Googly Worm. Considering the insanity of stashing money into my dwindling 401K, I believe Googly might be the wisest purchase I've made in months. I might go back to Walgreens and buy one in each color.
